Connect to Wellbeing, a new service supporting mental health and wellbeing in northern Queensland, will launch in Cairns, Townsville and Mackay on 8th May 2018.

Run by Neami National in partnership with Northern Queensland Primary Health Network (NQPHN), Connect to Wellbeing provides a single point of entry for people seeking support for a range of mental health needs in the region.

Local primary health care teams and GPs will be able to refer people seeking support to Connect to Wellbeing via phone, email or online. Once in contact with Connect to Wellbeing, the team will provide one-on-one support to ensure that people are connected with the right support at the right time.

The Connect to Wellbeing teams in Cairns, Townsville and Mackay will be led by Regional Manager Joe Petrucci and service managers Thomas Jia, Michelle Dyck and Joy Sleep.

Neami National is one of Australia’s largest providers of community mental health support, bringing over 30 years’ experience working in partnership to deliver innovative services across Australia.

Neami National Queensland State Manager, Karen Thomas said, “At Neami our mission is to improve mental health and wellbeing in local communities and we’re delighted to have the opportunity to work together with the NQPHN, local service providers and primary health teams to support people in northern Queensland to make positive changes to their mental health and wellbeing.

“We’ve seen the stepped care model provide people with mental health support that is flexible and adapts to their needs over time, ultimately resulting in positive outcomes. We’re proud to support the roll out of the stepped care model in northern Queensland through the new Connect to Wellbeing service.”

NQPHN Mental Health Director Gillian Yearsley said, “This is an exciting period of change and reform, this approach is helping to improve outcomes for people who are in need of mental health support.

“We look forward to collaborating with Neami to introduce this important component of the Australian Government’s mental health reforms."
