South Australian State Governor visits Neami’s Street to Home service

On Friday the 16th of March, the South Australian State Governor His Excellency the Honourable Hieu Van Le AC, his wife Mrs. Le and his staff aid visited Neami’s homelessness service Street to Home.

The visit was upon His Excellency’s request to inspect the facility and the services offered by Street to Home in Adelaide, and to gain an overview of Street to Home’s approach to homelessness.

Several Neami staff, including South Australian State Manager Kim Holmes along with Ngarrindjeri Elder Auntie Stephanie Gollan were present for the visit and to welcome him to the service.

His Excellency was given a guided tour of the Street to Home facility, was introduced to staff and joined everyone for morning tea.

His Excellency also spoke to two consumers who shared their stories of how Street to Home has assisted them.

After the morning tea all present sat down for a round table discussion, where His Excellency and Mrs. Le engaged in conversation and asked questions about the service.

After the discussion His Excellency joined a Neami Community Rehabilitation and Support Worker on a street patrol to experience what the day to day work at Street to Home was like.

Reflecting on the visit, Kim Holmes said, “Consumers, Auntie Stephanie, staff and others all contributed to a rich round table conversation during the visit. His Excellency and Mrs. Le were genuinely interested in the stories and experiences of people sleeping rough”.
