Neami Nepean-Penrith, a community mental health service located in Penrith, was officially opened on Wednesday 15th November by Ms Emma Husar, MP for Lindsay. The launch event was attended by local community services, partners and potential services users.
Ms Husar spoke on mental health, community based support services and the importance of supporting people in their recovery journey and to build wellbeing in the Nepean-Penrith region.
Ms Husar said, “Mental health and access to services is a major issue for our community. Too often people who need help are not sure where to turn. More services providing crucial care for people needing mental health assistance are very welcome in our community.”
Neami Nepean-Penrith was established following the announcement that Neami National was awarded the Housing and Accommodation Support Initiative (HASI) in the Nepean Blue Mount Local Health District.
Through the HASI program, Neami Nepean-Penrith will provide support to people living with mental illness to seek and maintain housing, live independently and pursue a life based on their own strengths, value and goals.
Neami National, NSW Regional Manager Claire Lynch said, “We’re delighted to be opening this new site in the Nepean region. Neami National are excited to be bringing 30 years of community mental health experience to another part of NSW and to partner with other local services in this venture”.
