Neami National, Greater Metro South Brisbane Partners in Recovery Program and the Brisbane Hoarding and Squalor Working Group are hosting a forum for organisations and individuals working with or concerned for people experiencing hoarding and / or squalor.
The aim is to create an open discussion and build a collaborative response to hoarding and squalor within the Greater Metro South Brisbane Region.
The forum will include
A session presented by Professor John Snowdon, Clinical Professor from the University of Sydney, Psycho-geriatrician Sydney South West Area Health Service and co-author of the book Severe Domestic Squalor.
A session presented by Mercy Splitt providing expertise from her work with people experiencing hoarding and squalor with Sydney Catholic Community Services Hoarding and Squalor Program
A panel session of local presenters and guest speakers highlighting current responses to hoarding and squalor within the Brisbane area covering a range of topics, including
- The work of the Brisbane Hoarding and Squalor Working Group and Case Collaboration Group
- Successful models within other localities
- Creating in-roads with government departments and building networks
- Psychological interventions
- RSPCA responses
- Queensland Fire and Rescue responses and reporting
Individuals with a lived experience of hoarding and / or squalor are encouraged to attend the Understanding Stuff forum.
